Going to Goa, India

India is a bustling country, and is always busy no matter the hour. You may step out in the night and take a drive in Delhi at 11:30 and still get caught in traffic. It can be a pain, and that’s why I cherish the opportunity instead to visit places like Goa. Goa is in the west of India, with its coast sitting along the Arabian Sea. It’s a city that was a Portuguese colony in the 16th century, and evidence of this is made apparent when you visit Goa.

When it comes to looking for things to do, there’s always beaches to go to just like Pondicherry, but it’s the markets in Goa that really make the place distinct.

To start with, there’s the Baga-Candolim-Calangute, which is a popular beach market where you will find lots of little souvenirs and handicrafts. Then there’s the Friday Bazaar, which is larger and has more to offer in terms of the types of goods there are. There’s also the Anjuna Flea Market, where you will find everything you need, clothes, bags, jewelry and even tattoo stalls.

When you’ve had enough of the markets, you can visit the more historically rich parts of Goa. One such site is the church, Basilica of Bom Jesus. Whether you go for religious reasons, or sightseeing reasons, this place is extraordinary. It was built in the early 17th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier.

There are many churches in Goa to see, and it’s the amazing architecture together mixed with it’s historical influence that makes it a sight to see.

Chapora Fort, another one for those that love their history. The fort is best visited in the evenings. Besides its historic meaning, the for offers a spectacular view over the peninsula and also makes for a great spot to watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea. The fort is easily accessible by bus from the market town of Mapusa.

There is plenty more to do in Goa. It is a city known for its tourist attractions and beaches. The markets are definitely worth a visit as they offer a unique experience and offer good prices. Goa is a truly wonderful place to enjoy your holidays.
